Press releases from Jubaland civil society organizations discussing political violence and the travel ban against civilians.

Jubaland’s civil society organizations are raising urgent alarm over the escalating political violence and the flight ban imposed on Kismayo and Doolow — measures that are punishing ordinary civilians for a dispute they did not start.

The travel restrictions, enforced following the political standoff between the Jubaland administration and the Federal Government of Somalia, have severed access to critical services — medical care, trade, and humanitarian assistance — for thousands of residents who depend on air connectivity.

We are not combatants. We are teachers, mothers, traders, and patients. Blocking a plane does not stop a political crisis — it stops a child from reaching a hospital.

Civil society organizations in Jubaland call on both the Federal Government and the Jubaland administration to:

  • Immediately lift the flight ban on civilian routes
  • Cease all actions that place the burden of political conflict on civilian populations
  • Return to dialogue through legitimate, peaceful channels

Political differences must never become weapons against the people. We urge regional and international partners to take note and act.
