The role of the civil society and media in good governance and peace.

Good governance does not begin in parliament — it begins in communities. In Jubaland, civil society organizations and independent media play a vital role in strengthening the relationship between the people and their government.

Civil society holds space for community voices. It monitors how public resources are used, advocates for marginalized groups, and supports institutions in delivering services more effectively. When civil society is active, governance becomes a shared responsibility.

Media, when professional and responsible, creates the informed citizenry that democracy requires. Investigative reporting, community radio, and local journalism give citizens the knowledge they need to participate meaningfully. In post-conflict settings, media also plays a direct peace role — countering misinformation, amplifying dialogue, and building mutual understanding.

Together, civil society and media form the connective tissue of a functioning, peaceful society.

JUNSAA remains committed to working alongside government, communities, and all stakeholders to build a Jubaland where accountability, transparency, and peace go hand in hand.
